We stock Turbo Dork because nothing else we've tried comes close for colourshift and metallic effects. The coverage is excellent, they work with both airbrush and hand brush, and the finish holds up to handling on the gaming table, not just in a display cabinet.
The range breaks down into 3 types:
Turboshifts: Dramatic colour changes that shift depending on the angle and the light. Best for armour, carapace, and anything you want people to notice.
Metallics:Rich, sparkling metal tones with real visual weight. These replace your standard gold, silver, and copper and then some.
Zenishifts: Shift differently depending on the base colour underneath. Two colours from one bottle and a transition in between.
Pick a single Turboshift that catches your eye. Spray black primer (or whatever the bottle recommends), and apply two to three thin coats. That's genuinely all it takes to see what these paints can do.
If you'd rather start with a set, the Earthly Pleasures gives you four Turboshifts that work together, and the True Metals set covers your essential gold, silver, copper, and bronze.
For anyone who wants to pair Turbo Dork with a solid range of base colours, Two Thin Coats are designed to work together; their triads give you shadow, midtone, and highlight with no colour-matching guesswork.
Turbo Dork paints work best with a palette to keep them workable (we use and stock Red Grass Glass palettes and Turbo Dork Silicon Palettes) and a reliable primer. For most Turboshifts, black primer gives you the strongest shift. For Zenishifts, try both black and white to see the two tones.
Every Turbo Dork paint we sell is one we've used ourselves, so if you have any questions, get in touch.
